so, what's it all about?

I'm currently in this process of writing a research proposal for my summer trip to Berlin this coming summer. So, in the spirit of doing something new I figure it's time to try and learn how to write a blog. After all, it's multi-media friendly and a new educational tool of the future, so it's time I familiarize myself with it. As far as research goes, it is a whole different beast altogether that of course is different for every discipline. But should it be? Hm, that's a different issue.

Anyway, I wrote a first draft of my proposal, which I'll probably post separately. I'm not sure exactly how to operationalize variables, but I am really interested in cross culturally examining education structures, classroom management, and the use of space. Currently,  my main concern is trying to supplement my values with a reliable methodology that is as neutral as possible. Like, I am a really firm believer that there is such a thing as good teaching. Ugh, it's that word again. Good, goodness, goodlyness. HOW is one to measure these things? And there's that question of if any of any of this nonsense matters at all?

The truth is though, that research forces you to write in forms of answers and assertions under the assumption that whatever you're researching really does matter. So, I guess it's only appropriate that before I begin blogging extensive sets of cultural, professional, and other experiential observations, I generate some list-type categorization of my assertions, values, and the like. Or maybe it doesn't matter?

I want to think more. But more importantly, I want more experiences that center my thoughts. I've been sitting here waiting to publish this first blog post to edit it or something, but that really defeats the purpose. I think the point of this blog should be to chart my steps in understanding, not to create some post that is a dialectic of my entire research hypothesis.
